The following steps will show you how to setup the Guard Station desktop application for viewing your SureVision Green Line recorders remotely.
Contents
1. Connecting to your Network
2. Enabling P2P
3. Installing the Guard Station App
4. Adding your Device to the App
Step 1. Connecting to your Network
Before you can access your recorder remotely, you must first connect it to your modem or router using an ethernet cable. If you have a 4, 8, or 16-channel NVR, make sure you connect using the dedicated network port that is isolated from the other ethernet ports. Our systems do not support Wi-Fi connections for remote viewing. You must use a hard-wired connection.
We also recommend enabling the setting DHCP to auto-obtain an IP address for your system. Navigate to Menu > System > Network > Basic > TCP/IP on the recorder's interface. Click the slider next to Enable DHCP. Make sure you click Apply after changing any settings. If you have multiple NIC cards, choose the one that corresponds with the port that the network is connected to (Port 1 = NIC1, Port2 = NIC2, etc.).
Step 2. Enabling P2P
We now want to make sure P2P is enabled and Online. This is what we will use to establish connection between the mobile device and the recorder. Navigate to Menu > System > Network > Basic > P2P. If P2P is not enabled already, click the slider at the top to enable it. You should also see a status just below the enable box. This status will show Online, Offline, Network Connected, or Network Disconnected.
If the status shows Online or Network connected, you can continue to the next step. If the status shows Offline or Network disconnected, here are some things you can try to troubleshoot:
1. Make sure DHCP is enabled like in the previous step.
2. Check in Network > Advanced for PPPoE and Multicast. If you have either of these settings listed, they must be disabled for P2P to function.
3. Double check that the ethernet cable connecting the recorder to the network is connected and functional. You can also swap this cable for another known-working cable.
4. Power the recorder off and back on. You can do this with the power supply switch on the back or you can unplug the power supply.
If you try these four steps and the status still shows Offline or Network disconnected, there may be something with the network disrupting the P2P connection. It is best to contact your network admin or internet service provider (ISP) to figure out what could be blocking the connection.
You may want to write down or take a picture of the Register Code listed on this page, as we will use it to add the system to your online account.
Step 3. Installing the Guard Station App
Once the status on your recorder says Online or Network connected, you will want to install the Guard Station application. The latest version can be found on our website at http://www.cctvsecuritypros.com/surevision-downloads. Be sure to download the correct file for your operating system.
This next section will focus on installing the program for Windows devices, however the process is very similar for Mac devices as well. Open the zip file once it is finished downloading, and open the .exe file within. You should see a screen like this:
Click Next a couple of times and then Install. When the installation is complete, click Finish. The application will create a shortcut on your desktop by default. Locate the shortcut and open it. It will ask you to create a password for your local Guard Station account. We recommend using the same password as your SureVision NVR for simplicity. Answer the security questions on the next page as well to complete the first-time setup. It will ask you to login once again thereafter.
Once logged in, you should see a screen like below. If the application shows you an Add Device page, click cancel at the bottom to skip it.
Step 4. Adding your Device to the App
To add our SureVision NVR, we will go to Device Management, and Cloud Device. If you already have a Star4Live account, commonly used on the SureVision mobile applications, you may login with those credentials here. Otherwise, click Register.
Clicking Register will bring you to the Star4Live web portal. Here you can create an online cloud account with a unique username and email address. Choose your region and click Send Code to send a Verification Code to the email address entered. Type the code into the corresponding box, and once again, we recommend using the same password as your SureVision NVR for simplicity. Agree to the Service Agreement and click Register.
Here is your Star4Live web portal. We will want to add any devices to this page that we want to see on the desktop. Click Add towards the top, and enter the Register Code discussed in Step 2 of this guide. It will let you name the device, and the status should show Online if Step 2 was completed correctly. This is all we have to do on this page, so we can go back to Guard Station once this is complete.
You can now login to the Cloud Device section on Guard Station. This will automatically migrate the system we added to Star4Live, and once again, its status should show Online if Step 2 was completed correctly.
If the system status is Online, go back to the Control Panel and click Live View. Your system will be listed on the left, and you can either double click on the name to bring all of the cameras up, or use the dropdown menu to select individual cameras for viewing. Double click on a camera to make it fullscreen or use the grid icon towards the bottom left to add more windows to the view.
To view playback, head back to the Control Panel and click Playback. You can drop down the system you see on the left and select the camera(s) you wish to review footage for. Choose the date you wish to see cameras from on the calendar at the bottom left. Click Search, and you should see the cameras as well as the timeline for that day at the bottom. If you're viewing multiple cameras at once, you can click the icon with the two arrows towards the bottom to sync their timelines together for seamless viewing.
If you have any issues or questions with the setup, feel free to contact us via phone or email.
