Siamese security camera cable combines a coaxial video path with a separate power pair in one joined cable. It is commonly used with compatible HD-over-coax CCTV cameras and DVRs. BNC connectors terminate the video side, while supported power connectors complete the power connection. RJ45 Connectors and Ethernet Tools
Bulk Ethernet cable must be terminated consistently with suitable RJ45 connectors and a compatible crimping tool. A cable tester should be used before a camera is permanently mounted. Poor termination can produce intermittent video, network errors or power problems that resemble camera failure. Protect outdoor and exposed Ethernet connections inside compatible junction boxes rather than leaving plugs open to moisture.
BNC Connectors, Couplers and Power Adapters
HD-over-coax installations may use compression or twist-on BNC connectors, BNC couplers, power pigtails and other adapters according to the wiring design. The connector must match the cable type and should be installed securely to preserve the signal. Avoid unnecessary couplers and poorly protected joins because every connection point can become a source of signal loss or intermittent operation.
HDMI Cables and Local Monitor Connections
An HDMI cable commonly connects an NVR or DVR to a local display for setup, live viewing and playback. Select a cable length and display connection supported by the recorder. For longer or specialized display runs, verify the complete connection method before installation rather than assuming a standard short HDMI cable can be extended indefinitely.
Converters and Baluns
Baluns and converters can solve specific wiring or display challenges, but they do not make every camera, cable and recorder interchangeable. Confirm the input format, output format, supported resolution, power requirements and distance before using an adapter. A purpose-built compatible connection is preferable to stacking several converters together.
Video Storage for NVR and DVR Recording
Surveillance hard drives are designed for continuous video-recording workloads. Storage requirements depend on camera count, resolution, frame rate, compression, motion activity, recording schedule and the number of days footage should remain available. A larger hard drive does not improve image quality; it extends retention when the other settings remain the same.
Plan storage using the completed system rather than only the cameras installed on the first day. Adding cameras later increases the amount of recorded data and can shorten the retention period. After setup, confirm the recorder is writing video correctly and check how many days of footage are actually available under normal activity.

Plan a Reliable Security Camera Cable Installation
1. Match the cable to the system
Identify whether each camera is IP/PoE or HD-over-coax CCTV and confirm the recorder technology. Do not choose cable solely because a connector appears to fit.
2. Measure every cable route
Measure the real path around walls, ceilings and structural obstacles—not the straight-line distance. Leave a reasonable service loop without creating unnecessary coils or exceeding supported distances.
3. Protect connections and follow cable ratings
Use cable appropriate for the installation environment and protect exterior connections from moisture. Follow applicable building and low-voltage requirements, and use a qualified local installer when cable routing or elevated work is outside your experience.
4. Label and test before finishing
Label both ends of every run, test the cable, verify power and video and confirm the intended camera name at the recorder. Testing before walls or ceilings are closed makes troubleshooting much easier.
