How to Back Up Video from a SureVision NVR

Need to save security footage for your records or hand a clip over to law enforcement? Your SureVision NVR can back up recorded video to a USB flash drive or external USB hard drive. This guide shows two simple ways to export footage and confirms that backup files are saved in .MP4 format for easy viewing on most modern media players.

Method 1: Back Up Footage from Menu > Backup

This is the best method when you already know the camera, date, and time range you want to save.

Step 1: Open the Backup Menu

Go to Menu > Backup. Enter the camera number, date, and time for the footage you want to export, then click Search.

Step 2: Insert Your USB Drive

Connect your USB drive or external USB hard drive before starting the backup. Select the files you want by checking the box next to each result.

Step 3: Click Backup

Once your files are selected, click Backup. A progress bar will appear. When it finishes, click OK and safely remove your drive.

Good to Know
Backup time depends on how many files you export at once. Larger batches will take longer. All exported backup files are saved as .MP4 files, which makes them much easier to open on most computers.

Method 2: Clip Video from the Search Menu

This method is useful when you want to create a shorter clip from a larger recording.

Set Your Start and End Time

In the Search menu, click the Scissors icon. Your first click sets the start time. Click the icon again to set the end time.

Open File Management

After your clip range is selected, click the File Management button. Insert your USB drive, select the file in the list, and click Backup.

Finish and View the Clip

Once the progress bar finishes, remove the USB drive and open the saved .MP4 file using your preferred media player.
