1. Requirements
You will need the following for this guide:
- A Windows or Mac computer *
- An Internet router with Wi-Fi and Ethernet ports **
- A 12v DC power adapter (included)
- An Ethernet cable (included) *
- Our Guard Station software (free for download on our website here)
- Our SV Max mobile app (free for download on the App Store or Google Play Store)
* The Windows/Mac computer and the Ethernet cable are only necessary for first-time setup.
** The camera is only compatible with 2.4 GHz networks. It cannot connect to a strictly 5 GHz network.
2. Connecting the Camera to Your Network
Plug in the provided 12v DC power adapter into a sufficient power source and into the camera. Plug the camera into your Internet router using the provided Ethernet cable as well.
Download and install the Guard Station software from our website onto your Windows/Mac computer (found here). Make sure you are connected with either Ethernet or Wi-Fi to the same Internet router that the camera is plugged into. Within Guard Station, go to Device Management, and you should see the camera listed within the software after one minute of it being powered on.
Type the IP Address of the camera into a web browser such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. You will be greeted with a login page. Login to the page with the username admin and the password 123456.
The page will then ask you to create a new password. Put in 123456 for the old password and create your own with at least eight characters including one letter, one number, and a special character. You should also enter a valid email address that will be used in case the password is ever forgotten.
You should now see the image of your camera. At the top, click on Setup, then go to Network > Wi-Fi. You should see a page like below listing the local networks the camera sees. Make sure Wi-Fi Mode at the top is set to Wi-Fi.
Select your Wi-Fi Network within the list and enter your Wi-Fi Password at the bottom of the page. Click Save, and the camera will attempt to connect to your network wirelessly. If it does, it will show the Current Status as Connected.
If you plan on adding this camera to an NVR on the same network, you will likely want to skip Step 3 and head straight to Step 4, as there is one last thing we need to do before unplugging the camera.
3. Mobile Device Setup with SV Max
The below section will instead show you how to add the camera directly to the SV Max mobile app.
First, download the application from the App Store or Google Play Store. You will also need to get through the initial setup of the app if you have not already. If you need guidance, Steps 3 and 4 of this guide here will walk you through the process.
On the web page of the camera, go to Network > P2P. Within the SV Max app, tap the + sign at the top right and scan the QR Code shown on the P2P page.
The app will let you name the camera, and then add it to your account. You should now be able to see the Live View and Playback from your phone. Make sure you can see everything before unplugging the camera.
4. Unplugging the Camera from the Network
Before disconnecting the camera from the network and proceeding with installation, we need to set a static IP address for the LAN. On the same web interface, navigate to Network > Network, and set Obtain IP Address to Static. Enter the camera's current IP address as the IP Address (for example, 192.168.1.13), and set the Default Gateway to the same IP address ending in .1 (for example, 192.168.1.1). Click Save to apply the changes. The web service will likely refresh once again, and you can login.
Next, go to Network > Wi-Fi and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. If you plan on using this camera standalone on an app, leave Obtain IP Address on DHCP. If you plan on adding this camera to an NVR, change Obtain IP Address to Static. Enter the IP Address from the top of this Wi-Fi page into the IP Address box at the bottom. Set the Default Gateway to the same IP address ending in .1 (for example, 192.168.1.1). Click Save to apply the changes.
You may now unplug the camera and mount it in a place of your choosing. Please plug in the power supply and verify that the camera still has connection to your network in the location before you mount it. If everything was set up correctly and it does not connect, you are likely too far from the Internet Router, or you have too much interference between the two.
