Choose the recording technology before choosing the camera shape. A bullet, dome or turret housing does not tell you whether a camera will work with your existing recorder.

You can mix compatible camera styles throughout a property. Choose each housing and lens around its mounting position and the detail you need to capture.
Bullet Cameras
Bullet security cameras have a visible, directional design. They are useful for views along driveways, building edges and entrances where you want the camera aimed at a defined area.
Dome and Turret Cameras
Compact options for ceilings, soffits and walls. Dome cameras use a protective cover, while turret designs have an exposed lens assembly. Check the individual model’s outdoor and impact-resistance ratings.
PTZ Cameras
PTZ security cameras let you pan, tilt and zoom to inspect different areas. Pair them with fixed cameras when important views need continuous coverage while the PTZ looks elsewhere.
Wide-Angle and Specialty Cameras
Panoramic and fisheye models provide broad views, while specialized cameras address tasks such as license-plate capture. Match the model to the task; a wider view does not automatically provide more detail at a distance.
4MP or 4K? Consider the Lens and Lighting Too
4K security cameras provide approximately eight megapixels of resolution, offering more pixels than 4MP models. That extra resolution can help when reviewing smaller details, but the lens, viewing distance, lighting and recording settings still determine the usable image.
For example, a broad parking-lot overview and a close view of a doorway serve different purposes. A wide-angle lens covers more area; a narrower view concentrates pixels on a smaller scene. Motorized varifocal models let you adjust the view during setup within the lens’s supported range.
Outdoor Security Cameras and Night Vision
Choose outdoor security cameras with weather and operating-temperature ratings suited to the installation. Consider direct sunlight, rain exposure, nearby lights and the distance to the area you need to monitor.
Night vision cameras may use infrared illumination for black-and-white nighttime video. Selected models support color images using available light or built-in white lights. Check the recorded view after dark: illumination range alone does not establish how far away a person can be identified.
Smart Detection, Audio and Active Deterrence

Cameras with microphones can capture audio where recording is permitted. A built-in microphone does not necessarily provide two-way talk. Check individual specifications for speakers, two-way communication, warning lights, sirens and other active-deterrence features.
Local Recording Without Required Monthly Cloud Fees
Pair cameras with a compatible NVR or DVR to store footage locally. Supported recording modes may include continuous, scheduled and event-based recording. Storage needs depend on camera count, resolution, frame rate, compression and how long you want to retain footage.

Will these cameras work with my existing recorder?
Compatibility depends on the camera and recorder models. For IP equipment, check supported camera protocols, resolution, bandwidth, power and features. For coax equipment, check the video format and supported resolution. Matching connectors alone do not establish compatibility.
Do I need internet to record locally?
A compatible wired camera and local NVR or DVR setup can record without an internet connection when properly configured. Power and the necessary local connections are still required. Viewing from outside the property and internet-dependent services require connectivity.
Do security cameras require monthly fees?
Our compatible local-recording systems do not require a monthly cloud-storage subscription for basic recording. Optional services and internet or cellular connectivity may have separate costs. Check the features included with your selected equipment.
Should I choose wired or wireless security cameras?
Wired cameras are a practical choice for permanent installations where cable can be run, and their video connection does not depend on Wi-Fi reception. Wireless options can help where cabling is impractical, but you still need to consider power, signal quality and recording compatibility.
Are 4K security cameras always the best choice?
Not for every view. Higher resolution can help capture detail, but lens selection, lighting and subject movement also matter. Compare the complete camera specifications and recorder support rather than choosing on megapixels alone.
Can I add cameras to my system later?
