How to Choose a Fisheye Security Camera
A fisheye security camera uses an ultra-wide lens to record a panoramic scene from one fixed position. When mounted near the center of a ceiling, a 360-degree camera can capture activity around the camera rather than looking in only one direction. This makes fisheye IP cameras especially useful in open indoor areas where maintaining an overview is more important than viewing a distant target through a narrow lens.
The raw fisheye image may look circular or curved. Compatible dewarping software converts that image into flat panoramic or corridor-style views. Virtual PTZ lets an authorized viewer digitally pan, tilt and zoom within the recorded scene; it does not physically turn the camera, and the complete panoramic image can remain available while a specific area is inspected.

What to Check Before Buying a Panoramic IP Camera

Lighting & Night Vision
Check the rated infrared distance and the room's actual light. Infrared video is normally black-and-white in darkness, and objects beyond the rated range may not be evenly illuminated.

If audio is enabled, follow applicable recording and notice laws. Use privacy masks and access controls where required, and limit viewing to authorized users.
Storage & Network Capacity

Important SureVision Recorder Compatibility
Always confirm compatibility before ordering. The current SureVision SV-FE5-N product specifications list supported centralized recording, panoramic dewarping, virtual PTZ and advanced display functions with compatible SureVision 16-, 32-, 64- and 128-channel NVRs. The model is not listed as compatible with SureVision 4- or 8-channel NVRs.

Does a fisheye security camera record in every direction?
A model designed and configured for 360-degree ceiling coverage can record the surrounding panoramic scene. Actual usable coverage depends on placement, room shape, mounting height, obstructions, resolution and the camera's supported viewing mode.
Can one fisheye camera replace several standard cameras?
It can sometimes reduce the number of cameras needed for general awareness in an open area. It does not automatically replace targeted cameras used for entrances, identification, license plates, long corridors or distant subjects.
What is fisheye dewarping?
Dewarping is a software process that converts the curved fisheye image into flat panoramic or segmented views that are easier to interpret. Available layouts depend on the camera, recorder and viewing software.
Is virtual PTZ the same as a motorized PTZ camera?
No. Virtual PTZ digitally navigates within the panoramic image and has no moving parts. A motorized PTZ camera physically turns and changes its optical view, which is better suited to active long-range tracking and optical zoom.
Do fisheye IP cameras support night vision?
Some models do. The current 5MP SureVision fisheye camera lists Smart IR night vision up to approximately 33 feet. Infrared mode typically produces black-and-white video in darkness; always compare the product's stated range with the size and lighting of the scene.
Do I need an NVR for a PoE fisheye camera?
An NVR is recommended when you need centralized local recording, playback, evidence export and system management. Supported standalone functions can vary, so verify the exact camera, app, network and storage requirements before installation.
Where should a 360-degree security camera be mounted?
A central ceiling position is often best for full-room coverage. The final location should account for ceiling height, walls, shelving, light fixtures, displays and the distance to important subjects. A site plan or test view can prevent avoidable blind spots.
