Let's dive into the three types of security camera systems we offer - Traditional Analog CCTV Systems, HD-CVI Systems, and Network IP systems - and find out which one would be most suitable to your needs.

Security Camera System Types

 Types of Security Camera Systems

We offer three types of professional security camera systems: Traditional CCTV Systems, HD-CVI Systems, and Network IP Systems.

  • Traditional Analog CCTV Systems operate over combo RG59/siamese cable and are the old industry standard. Some buildings are pre-wired for this type of system, making it convenient to install. It is also the most cost-effective option. However, it has limited resolution during zoom.

  • Our HD Security Camera Systems aka (CVI) operate over coaxial combo cable and are the industry standard for new security systems. They require a BNC connection, but they are the easiest to integrate with microphones. HD-CVI Systems also have excellent digital zoom capabilities.

  • Network IP Systems operate over standard CAT5/6 ethernet cable and are the easiest to install, as power and video can be transmitted over the same cable. These systems offer the highest possible quality video, up to 4k resolution. However, they tend to have a higher cost compared to the other options. Network IP Systems also have excellent digital zoom capabilities.

The video recorders used in all three types of systems have similar functionality. They allow for remote access to the cameras, even from mobile devices. The main differences between these types are the camera technology and the type of cabling required.

ANALOG CCTV SYSTEMS

Analog CCTV systems are the old industry standard and are the most cost-effective. They operate over a combo RG59/siamese cable. If your building is pre-wired, you might find an analog solution to be the easiest and most cost-effective choice.

  • Operates over combo RG59/siamese cable

  • Old industry standard - some buildings are pre-wired

  • Most cost-effective type of system

  • Limitations in digital zoom because of pixelation

However, keep in mind that the digital zoom function is limited because the image can become pixelated when enlarged.

A drawback of using traditional CCTV cameras is that their digital zoom capability is somewhat limited, as the video can become pixelated. This is because analog CCTV cameras are measured in lines of resolution, whereas HD-CVI and Network IP cameras are rated in megapixels (MP). 1 MP = 1 million pixels, so during zoom with HD cameras of other types, the image will remain largely intact.

Analog cameras must be used with an analog DVR.

HD OVER COAX CVI SYSTEMS

The industry standard for new coax cable-based security systems is HD-CVI. They operate over a coaxial combo cable and provide excellent digital zoom capabilities. Unlike Analog systems, HD-CVI systems offer high-definition footage capturing great detail. Consider this if you think HD video and digital zoom are essential for you.

  • Operates over coax cable that requires a BNC connection

  • New industry standard

  • Functions best for integrating microphones

  • Excellent digital zoom capabilities thanks to a megapixel rating

Keep in mind that these cameras require more specific cable types that cannot be pre-made.

NETWORK VIDEO RECORDER IP BASED SYSTEMS

Network IP Systems offer the highest quality video, up to 4K. Although these tend to be more expensive, they offer superb digital zoom capabilities, are easiest to install, and run over standard CAT5/6 ethernet cables.

  • Operates over standard CAT5/6 ethernet cable

  • Simple installation - power & video run over the same cable

  • Highest possible quality video - up to 4K

  • Excellent digital zoom capabilities

Given their cost, consider this system if high-quality video, convenience of installation, and robust zoom capabilities are your top criteria.
