Additional Questions Found in the Support Transcripts
Start with local operation. If you can see cameras on the monitor connected directly to the recorder, the cameras and recorder are generally operating locally. Remote-viewing problems should then be diagnosed through the recorder network status, router connection and app device entry.
1. How do I set up remote viewing on my phone or computer?

Remote viewing requires the recorder to be connected to your router and online before the app can reach it. Set up and confirm the recorder locally first.

1. Connect the recorder's LAN/network port to your internet router with an Ethernet cable.
2. On the recorder, open the Network or P2P screen and confirm the status shows Online.
3. Install the current SureVision viewing app on the phone or the supported client on the computer.
4. Add the recorder by scanning its device QR code or entering the requested device information.
5. Enter the recorder username and password when requested. This may be different from the app-account password.
6. Open Live View and select the recorder and cameras.

If it does not connect: confirm the recorder itself is online, check the Ethernet cable, and verify the saved device username and password before changing any router settings.

2. Why is a camera offline, showing no video or reporting no signal?

The fastest test is to determine whether the failure follows the camera, the installed cable or the recorder port.

1. Note the affected channel and error message.
2. Reseat both ends of the camera cable and inspect the connectors for damage or moisture.
3. If practical, bring the camera to the recorder and connect it with a short, known-good cable.
4. Test the camera on a recorder port that is currently working with another camera.
5. If the camera works locally, troubleshoot or replace the installed cable/connection. If it fails on a known-good cable and port, the camera or its configuration may require support.
Stop and contact support if you suspect PoE damage, water intrusion, a failed camera, or a problem that remains after the known-good cable and port test.

3. How do I find and play recorded security camera video?
1. Open Playback from the recorder's live-view screen or main menu.
2. Select the camera or cameras you want to review.
3. Choose the correct date. Dates containing video are often marked on the calendar.
4. Use the timeline to move to the approximate time of the incident.
5. Zoom the timeline or use event filters to narrow the results, then use Play, Pause, Rewind or Fast Forward.

No recording appears? Confirm the recorder date and time, the channel's recording schedule, and the hard-drive status. Older footage may have been overwritten as the drive filled.

4. I changed my router or internet provider. How do I reconnect the system?

A router or provider change usually affects the recorder's network connection—not the camera-to-recorder connections.

1. Connect the recorder's LAN port to the new router with a known-good Ethernet cable.
2. Open the recorder's Network/TCP-IP settings.
3. For a normal home or small-business network, enable DHCP and apply the change.
4. Confirm the recorder receives a valid IP address, gateway and DNS information.
5. Check the P2P/remote-access status and wait for it to show Online.
6. Reopen or refresh the mobile app. Do not delete the device unless support or the model-specific instructions require it.

Managed business networks, VLANs, firewalls and static-address installations may require the network administrator or CCTV Security Pros Technical Support.

5. I forgot my password or my login does not work. What should I do?

First identify which credential is failing: the recorder administrator password, the app-account password, or the recorder password saved inside the app or computer software.

1. Try signing in directly at the recorder using its connected monitor and mouse.
2. If the recorder password works locally, update the stored device credentials in the app or desktop client.
3. If the recorder administrator password is forgotten, select Forgot Password when available and follow the recovery method configured for that recorder.
4. If recovery was not configured or fails, contact support with the recorder model and order information.
Do not repeatedly guess passwords. Multiple failed attempts can temporarily lock the account, and reset procedures vary by recorder model.

6. How do I initially install and set up my security camera system?

Complete the first setup directly at the recorder. A laptop normally does not replace the monitor required for the initial local setup.

1. Connect a compatible monitor to the recorder's HDMI or VGA output and connect the included mouse.
2. Connect the cameras to the appropriate PoE or coax camera inputs for your system.
3. Apply power and complete the startup wizard, including the administrator password, recovery options, time zone, date and time.
4. Confirm each camera displays locally on the monitor.
5. Review the recording schedule and storage status.
6. Connect the recorder's LAN port to the router, confirm online status, and then configure remote viewing.

If the recorder is powered on but the monitor is blank, verify the monitor input, HDMI/VGA connection and display compatibility before troubleshooting cameras.

7. How do I add, replace or activate a camera on my recorder?
1. Confirm the new camera is compatible with the recorder model and available channel capacity.
2. Connect the camera and allow one or two minutes for it to power up.
3. Open Camera Management or the camera/channel screen and look for the discovered camera.
4. For a supported plug-and-play camera, allow the recorder to add it automatically.
5. For manual addition, select the discovered IP address, assign the desired channel, choose the correct protocol and enter the camera credentials.
6. Confirm the channel changes to Online and displays video.

Do not change a channel from plug-and-play to manual addressing unless the camera and recorder instructions require it. Third-party compatibility can depend on protocol, resolution, firmware, credentials and feature support.

8. My cameras work on the local monitor, but remote viewing fails. Why?

Local video confirms that the camera-to-recorder path is working. Focus on the connection from the recorder to the router and from the app to the recorder.

1. Confirm the Ethernet cable runs from the recorder's LAN port—not a PoE camera port—to the router.
2. Check that the recorder has a valid IP address, gateway and DNS information.
3. Verify the recorder's P2P or remote-access status shows Online.
4. Close and reopen the app, then refresh the device list.
5. Confirm the correct recorder is saved and its stored device username and password are current.
6. Test the phone away from the local Wi-Fi network to confirm true remote access.

If the recorder is online but external access still fails, a managed firewall, VLAN, DNS restriction or other network policy may need review by the network administrator or Technical Support.

9. Why is my recorder not recording, or what is wrong with the hard drive?
1. Open the Storage, Disk or HDD status screen.
2. Confirm the hard drive is detected and its condition reports Normal or Healthy.
3. Check the total capacity, available space and overwrite setting.
4. Review the recording schedule for the affected camera and day.
5. Confirm the recorder date and time are correct, then perform a short playback test.
Important: Initializing or formatting a hard drive can erase recordings. Do not do it as a general troubleshooting step. If the drive is missing, abnormal, making unusual sounds or reporting errors, contact support before taking destructive action.

10. How do I change the recorder's IP address, DHCP or network settings?

For most standard router installations, DHCP is the safest starting point because the router supplies compatible network information automatically.

1. Open the recorder's Network or TCP/IP settings.
2. Record or photograph the current values before changing them.
3. Enable DHCP, apply the settings and allow the recorder to obtain a new address.
4. Confirm the assigned IP address matches the router's network and that the gateway and DNS fields are populated.
5. Verify the P2P/remote-access status returns to Online.

Static IP caution: use a fixed address only when required and coordinated with the network administrator or support. An incorrect or duplicate static address can disable network and remote access.

11. How do I configure motion detection, smart alerts or phone notifications?

Configure the event at the recorder first, then enable notification delivery in the app and the phone's operating-system settings.

1. Open Alarm/Event settings and select the camera.
2. Enable standard Motion Detection or supported SureVision human/vehicle detection.
3. Draw the detection area, choose the target types when supported, and set a reasonable sensitivity.
4. Set the arming schedule and desired actions, then apply the changes.
5. In the app, select the system and allow device alarm notifications and app notifications.
6. Confirm notifications are also allowed for the app in the phone's system settings, then perform a controlled walking test.

When supported, person and vehicle classification usually produces more useful alerts than basic pixel-change motion. Final results still depend on scene, camera placement, lighting, sensitivity and schedule.

12. How do I share camera access with another person or phone?
1. Install the same supported viewing app on the additional phone.
2. Use the app's device-sharing function when available, or add the recorder with its approved device information.
3. For an employee, vendor or other limited user, create a separate authorized recorder user with only the permissions needed.
4. Confirm the device appears Online and test Live View and permitted playback functions.
5. Remove access when the person no longer requires it.

Avoid distributing the main administrator password. Separate users make it easier to limit privileges and revoke access without disrupting the primary account.

13. Why can I not hear audio from a camera?
1. Check the exact camera model to confirm it has a built-in microphone, an audio input or two-way-audio support.
2. Confirm audio is enabled for the camera's stream or encoding profile.
3. In Live View, select one camera and turn on or unmute the speaker/audio icon.
4. For recorded audio, confirm the recorder was configured to record the audio stream before the incident occurred.
5. Test locally and remotely to separate a camera/recorder setting from a phone or computer volume setting.
Audio recording laws vary by location. Confirm the rules that apply to your property and use signs or consent where required.
14. How do I adjust PTZ, motorized zoom, picture or night-vision settings?

The available controls depend on the camera. A fixed-lens camera cannot perform optical zoom or pan and tilt simply because digital controls appear in the software.

1. Confirm the camera model supports PTZ movement, motorized optical zoom or the image feature you need.
2. Select the camera in Live View and open the PTZ/zoom panel for supported movement or lens controls.
3. Use the camera's Image settings for exposure, brightness, backlight, day/night mode, infrared or white-light behavior.
4. Change one setting at a time and test during the lighting conditions that caused the problem.
5. Record the original value before adjusting advanced exposure, shutter or illumination settings.

If a feature is absent, unavailable or does not respond, verify camera-to-recorder compatibility and model capability before changing protocols or firmware.

15. How do I export or download recorded video?
1. Find the incident in Playback and write down the exact camera, start time and end time.
2. To export at the recorder, insert a compatible USB flash drive.
3. Open Search, Backup or Export; select the channel and time range; and search for matching files.
4. Select the required clip and choose the USB destination.
5. To export from supported computer software, select the recording and use Download or Export, noting the destination folder.
6. Open the exported file and confirm that the correct video and time range play before removing the USB drive or deleting anything.

For an important incident, preserve the original recorder and exported file, keep an additional copy, and document the camera and time range.

Additional Common Technical Support Questions

These issues appeared repeatedly in the complete transcript review but were not fully answered by the original ranked questions. They are listed separately so the original Top 15 ranking remains accurate.

16. The recorder date, time or video timestamp is wrong. How do I correct it?

An incorrect recorder clock can make playback difficult to find and can place the wrong timestamp on new recordings. Correct the recorder itself before changing the app or individual camera clocks.

1. Open the recorder's System, General or Date & Time settings.
2. Select the correct time zone and verify daylight-saving-time settings for your location.
3. If the recorder has internet access, enable supported NTP time synchronization and choose the recommended server/interval.
4. If the system is offline, enter the current date and time manually.
5. Apply the change, return to Live View and confirm the clock remains correct.
6. Make a short test recording and confirm the new playback timestamp.
Evidence reminder: changing the clock corrects future system time; it does not rewrite the timestamp already embedded in older recordings. Preserve important footage and document any known time difference.
17. Why is a PoE camera not receiving power?

A PoE camera receives power and network data through a compatible Ethernet connection. The problem may be the camera, cable, connector, PoE port, external switch or available PoE power budget.

1. Verify the camera is connected to a PoE-capable recorder port or compatible PoE switch—not a data-only LAN port.
2. Check the link/power lights at the recorder or switch and reseat both cable ends.
3. Test the camera beside the recorder with a short known-good Ethernet cable and a known-working PoE port.
4. If an external PoE switch is used, confirm its per-port standard and total power budget support the connected cameras.
5. Inspect outdoor connectors for corrosion, moisture, damaged pins or improper terminations.
6. If the camera works on the short cable, troubleshoot the installed cable length, terminations and route.
Do not substitute power adapters. Voltage, polarity, connector size, current capacity and PoE standard must match the equipment. Contact Technical Support before using a replacement power supply or injector.
18. Why does the app say the QR code or device is already added, bound or registered?

This message usually means the recorder is already associated with an app account. It is an account-ownership issue, not a camera failure.

1. Confirm the QR code belongs to the recorder's P2P/device screen and not a camera label or unrelated serial-number label.
2. Identify the account that originally added the recorder.
3. If that account is authorized and accessible, use the app's sharing function to grant access to the new user.
4. If the system changed owners or the original account is unavailable, gather the recorder model, serial number, order information and proof of authorized ownership.
5. Contact Technical Support for the correct account-release or unbinding procedure.
Do not remove, unbind or delete an account you do not recognize until ownership and authorized access are confirmed. Unbinding can interrupt access for existing users.
19. Is a new or third-party camera compatible with my existing recorder?

Compatibility involves more than whether both products are called IP cameras or support ONVIF. Basic video may work while audio, smart detection, PTZ, configuration or plug-and-play features do not.

1. Record the exact recorder and camera model numbers and current firmware versions.
2. Confirm the recorder supports the camera's protocol, resolution, codec, frame rate and required bandwidth.
3. Confirm the power method: compatible PoE standard, approved external power, or both.
4. Check whether advanced features such as human/vehicle detection, two-way audio, motorized zoom or PTZ require a matching product line.
5. Before purchasing multiple cameras, verify compatibility with CCTV Security Pros and test one complete channel when appropriate.

For the most predictable operation and feature support, use cameras and recorders confirmed as compatible within the SureVision product line. ONVIF can improve interoperability, but it does not guarantee every feature.

20. Why is the recorder beeping, restarting or stuck in a boot loop?

A recorder alarm can indicate storage, camera, network, power, temperature or system-status problems. Repeated restarting can also indicate a failing power supply, hard drive or recorder component.

1. Note the exact behavior: number or pattern of beeps, on-screen message, status lights and whether video is still recording.
2. Open the alarm, exception, maintenance or system-log screen and identify the reported condition.
3. Check hard-drive status, free space and recording operation.
4. Verify the recorder is using its correct power adapter and has clear ventilation.
5. Remove nonessential USB devices and confirm no button is stuck, then perform one normal menu-based shutdown and restart if the recorder remains responsive.
6. If it immediately resumes beeping or restarting, stop troubleshooting and contact support.
Do not repeatedly remove power, open the recorder, disconnect an internal hard drive, silence a persistent alarm without finding its cause, or initialize storage unless a technician provides the correct procedure.
21. Should I update the recorder or camera firmware?

Firmware is model- and hardware-version-specific. An incorrect file or interrupted update can make a recorder or camera unusable, so updates should solve a documented issue or provide a required supported feature.

1. Record the complete model number, hardware version and current firmware version.
2. Describe the problem or feature that makes an update necessary.
3. Obtain the exact approved file and instructions from CCTV Security Pros or the official model-specific download page.
4. Back up the recorder configuration when supported and make sure power and the local display are stable.
5. Follow the supplied method exactly and do not remove power, close the update screen or disconnect the network during the process.
6. After the update and automatic restart, confirm cameras, recording, storage, date/time and remote viewing.
Best practice: do not install a file found for a similar-looking recorder or update a remote site without an approved recovery plan and local access.
22. How do I set up a license plate recognition camera?

A license plate camera should be aimed at a defined vehicle lane or capture point. A wide overview is useful for context, but the plate must occupy enough of the image and stay within the camera's specified distance and angle limits.

1. Choose a predictable lane, gate, driveway or entrance where vehicles slow down and plates pass through a controlled area.
2. Confirm the camera's supported capture distance, mounting height, horizontal/vertical angle and expected vehicle speed for the exact model.
3. Use Live View to frame the plate area tightly enough for useful identification while keeping a separate overview camera when broader context is needed.
4. Configure the LPR/ANPR detection region, direction and plate-list features supported by the camera and recorder.
5. Adjust focus, zoom, exposure, shutter and nighttime illumination using the model-specific guide.
6. Test with real vehicles in daylight and darkness, then verify recording, search results and alerts.

Do not finalize mounting based only on a parked-vehicle test. Headlights, reflective plates, speed, rain, lane angle and nighttime exposure can change the result.
